Advanced Data Research, Inc., a leading software and hardware integrator has announced the new 7000X series of Electronic Flight Bags. These fifth generation systems are the latest product in ADR’s hugely successful FG-Series Electronic Flight Bag line. The specially designed high-resolution touch-screen computer allows pilots to view airport approach charts while they fly. The FG-Series EFBs also replaces paper charts like MELs, SOPs, SIDs, STARs, OEM Technical publications, and even offers customizable electronic checklists. Airport charts are instantly available electronically by simply touching the screen. The user can zoom in or out on charts, or even change airports and landing destinations instantly. Of course, ADR’s 7000X series are completely compatible with Jeppesen's family of aviation products including JeppView FliteDeck® and FliteStar®/FliteMap® Software. When your flight is complete, the FG-7000X EFB can instantly convert to a powerful laptop computer running your personal applications.

All ADR FG-Series EFBs have been specially modified by ADR to meet the challenging demands of pilots making it a truly unique avionics tool. Unique value- added features offered on no other system include a "Night Flight" dimming feature that allows the system brightness to be adjusted to ultra low levels (the same as your MFD) so as not to compromise night vision. Most FG-Series EFBs also tout special screen enhancements that increase the NIT rating and greatly improve the screen readability in sunlight. In addition, ADR’s exclusive Flight Command Software (FCS) offers security and navigational tools designed to minimize electronic chart access time, provide power management information and prevent unintentional deletion or accidental movement of critical data files.

Dube Air EFB Support Services – the only seamless and integrated solution available for a successful paper to EFB conversion

The EFB has become an essential safety tool for many flight operations yet one problem we see over and over with EFB implementations is that many operators do not know how to setup their EFBs to fully utilize their capabilities in the cockpit. An even bigger problem we see is many flight departments are unable to provide their pilots the comprehensive EFB initial training they really need. Today’s EFBs have very powerful microprocessors, with complex application software, that crews must learn to use accurately and quickly within the high workload environment of a jet cockpit. We certainly would not expect these crews to learn how to use their aircraft FMS solely by reading the FMS manual, yet many times that’s exactly what they are expected to do with EFBs.]

Dube Air has responded to these needs by now offering an optional suite of EFB support services that we call our Platinum Level EFB Support. These services consist of the following:

  • Onsite EFB Software Load and Setup – Every flight department has different needs and requirements. One of our experienced professionals will come to your facility, load all your software, and customize your EFB setup to the specific needs of your flight operation.
  • Onsite EFB Initial Training for Your Pilots – No more haphazard, “catch-it-when-you-can” EFB training. One of our experienced professionals will provide comprehensive onsite EFB initial training to all of your pilots at the same time, and ensure that each pilot is trained to the same level of proficiency.
  • 24 x 7 EFB Phone Support – Dube Air’s exclusive 24 x 7 EFB Phone Support ensures that your crews will never be left alone, even during a trip, to have to deal with EFB questions or issues that might come up. No other EFB provider offers this level of service.

EVAS™ Worldwide – The World’s Only Continuous Cockpit Smoke Emergency System

The patented EVAS (Emergency Vision Assurance System) is the only cockpit smoke displacement system available which has been FAA tested and certified to ensure pilot vision in the presence of dense continuous smoke.

EVAS™ box, not-deployed

What Is Evas?

Statistics from FAA Service Difficulty Reports clearly show that in-flight fires, smoke or fumes are one of the most significant causes of unscheduled or emergency landings and account for on average one precautionary landing per day based on 1,089 events during a 10 month period in 1999.

A pilot encountering smoke in the cockpit so thick that the instruments cannot be seen can utilize a relatively simple device, which provides a clear view.

Emergency Vision Assurance System (EVAS) provides a clear space of air through which a pilot can see flight instruments and out the front windshield for landing. The pilot still relies on the oxygen mask for breathing, smoke goggles for eye protection and employs approved procedures for clearing smoke from the aircraft. When smoke evacuation procedures are not sufficient, EVAS provides emergency backup allowing the pilot to see and fly the aircraft to a safe landing.

EVAS measures 3 x 8.5 x 10 inches when stowed, the approximate space of a Jeppessen navigation manual. When needed, the pilot removes the IVU (Inflatable Vision Unit) from the EVAS case and pulls a tab to activate the system. The IVU inflates with one lobe above and one below the glareshield. According to EVAS Worldwide, the distributor of EVAS, the whole process takes 15-20 seconds. The pilot leans forward, placing his smoke goggles in contact with the EVAS clear window, giving him an unimpaired view of both vital instruments and the outside world.

After it is activated, EVAS is continually pressurized with filtered cockpit air to maintain volume and preserve a clear view. The device is independent of aircraft power, relying on a self-contained battery-power supply, pump and filters in each storage case. EVAS systems are designed to run for at least two hours, and filter down to .01 microns. The system requires virtually no installation.

While the FAA regulations require smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, smoke goggles and oxygen masks, pilots point out that these safeguards and all other systems and equipment for flight safety are useless if the pilots cannot see to control and land the aircraft.

EVAS Worldwide uses a fleet of mobile cockpit demonstration units to show potential customers the benefits of the system. EVAS demonstrations use a fog generator to reduce cockpit vision so the pilot cannot see his hand in front of his face. Smoke goggles offer no vision improvement, though they do protect the eyes. After EVAS is deployed, the pilot can clearly see both the vital instruments and out through the windshield. It is truly an amazing experience. Most pilots are sold on the benefits of EVAS on the spot.

Ten Very Important Facts

1.

If you can't see, you can't fly.

2.

"Smoke is the leading defined cause of emergency landings for ETOPS (Extended Twinengine Operations) aircraft." - Air Safety Week

3.

"There are an average of three smoke incidents daily in the US. On average, one out of three require an emergency landing due to smoke." - Airline Pilots Association

4.

"The time from first indication of smoke to an out-of-control situation may be very short." - Boeing Aero 14

5.

"Evaluate cockpit emergency vision technology." - National Transportation Safety Board (in recommendation to the FAA after ValuJet loss)

6.

In 2001 both the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) and the Coalition of Air Line Pilots Association (CAPA), whose combined memberships represent more than 100,000 pilots and over 50 airlines, endorsed the use of cockpit smoke displacement systems (CSDS) as "standard" equipment for all airlines.

7.

EVAS has received the Aerospace Industry's highest award in the category of "Training & Safety" at the 2001 Paris Air Show.

8.

Bombardier, Dassault Falcon Jet and Gulfstream Aerospace, after thorough evaluation and review have designated EVAS as standard client option for their prestigious line of jet aircraft.

9.

At least 1230 lives have been lost in air crashes where smoke and pilots inability to see their instruments was cited as the primary cause.

10.

Despite the FAA's 1992 recommendation, aircraft manufacturers do not certify aircraft using continuous or heavy smoke. EVAS is the only certified solution to continuous smoke.

Plane Sights™ Static Wick Markers/Covers – A very BIGHT idea

Static wicks present a very real risk of injury to passengers, crew, and ground personnel. As you know many corporate aircraft have sharp, pointy static wicks sticking from trailing edges of control surfaces, some at eye level. In addition, a broken static wick can result in many hours of trip delay for repair and replacement, not to mention the expense for parts. Plane Sights™ has introduced a solution in the form of a static wick marker/m cover that can be installed and removed in seconds.

Plane Sight markers address static wick hazard first with highly visible, light reactive streamers to minimize the risk someone might walk into them. The old "see and avoid" concept. Secondly, each static wick marker has a soft plastic extension, a proximity fuse, which extends several inches beyond the static wick. This proximity fuse designed to easily snap off in the event someone walks into it, to minimize personal injury. The other purpose of the static wick markers is to reduce the risk of actually breaking off a static wick and damaging the control surface trailing edge in the process. Think of it as low cost insurance.
